Your Mission

Our design team strives to make enterprise-grade open-source software accessible and intuitive. You will join a collaborative environment comprising visual designers, UX designers, and both front-end and back-end developers. Together, we work to bring innovative web projects to life, continuously learning from one another to refine our processes and output.

In this role, you will contribute to the success of Ubuntu and its extensive community by delivering clear, stylish designs that elevate user experience. Your work will involve real content and information, with a focus on typography, color, layout, usability, accessibility, and adherence to web standards.


What a Typical Day Looks Like

As a Junior UX Designer at Canonical:

  • Collaborate with a Multi-Disciplinary Team: Work alongside visual designers, UX experts, and engineers to create impactful web projects.

  • Design with Purpose: Craft designs that enhance the usability and accessibility of our products, grounded in solid design principles.

  • Continuous Improvement: Engage in ongoing learning and adaptation to stay current with the latest design trends and innovations.

  • User-Centric Focus: Apply your knowledge of typography, color, and layout to produce designs that improve user interaction and satisfaction.


What We Are Looking For

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Excellent academic results with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in User Experience, Design, or a STEM field.

  • Experience: Agency, company, or freelance design experience that demonstrates your skills and commitment to user experience.

Skills and Attributes

  • Passion for Design: A strong interest in UX, technology, and design with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

  • Drive and Determination: A proactive attitude towards completing work and celebrating achievements.

  • User Research Expertise: Confidence in conducting user research and applying findings to your designs.

  • Communication Skills: Ability to articulate your design choices clearly and work effectively with engineers, designers, and executives.
